This year, the Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities (ACDH) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences is hosting the CLARIAH-AT Roadshow: The event will take place on 9 November 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Bäckerstraße 13, 1010 Vienna.
Projects funded under the 2024 and 2025 calls will present their results: During a lightning talk session, the small-scale projects will showcase their ideas, methods, and findings in a concise format, while their accompanying posters will be available online. The large-scale projects will provide more in-depth insights into their research activities, developments, and achievements in a separate programme session.
Join us and connect with the Austrian DH Community!

Large-scale Projects
Data Analysis in the ÖNB Labs
This project aims to revise, expand, and better organize the collection of Jupyter Notebooks (JNBs) available in the ÖNB Labs ( https://labs.onb.ac.at ) and the associated GitLab ( https://labs.onb.ac.at/gitlab/labs-team/ ). Based on a requirements analysis conducted at the start of the project, existing notebooks will be improved, and at least ten new JNBs will be developed, with content tailored to the identified research and teaching needs. In addition, a general introductory Jupyter Notebook will be developed, and a classification system for all JNBs will be introduced to improve the clarity and discoverability of the collection. To support knowledge transfer, an internal training session and an external workshop for the CLARIAH-AT community were also held.
Data Analysis in the ÖNB LabsZukunft Kulturpool Visuell
The project Zukunft Kulturpool Visuell invites visitors to dive into the holdings of Austria’s national cultural heritage portal kulturpool.at. Through interactive visualizations, users immerse themselves in a pool of collection objects whose taxonomic and spatial structures open up exploratory pathways into Austria’s digital cultural heritage. The project addresses both the research community and a broader public with an interest in cultural heritage. The experimental interface is available at https://demo.mindfactor.at/kulturpool/ and will be presented in light of the ongoing feedback and evaluation process.
Zukunft Kulturpool VisuellGovernance und Verstetigung DH-Infra.at
Governance und Verstetigung DH-Infra.at puts in place the organisational, legal and economic groundwork that allows the Austrian DH research infrastructure to keep running and to grow beyond the funding period: a governance model agreed with all partner institutions, comprising a steering group, a technical board and a central operations team; a complete and publicly documented set of service, privacy and technical policies ( dhinfra.at/policy ); data-processing agreements and federation membership through ACOnet/eduID under the REFEDS and GÉANT Codes of Conduct; the legal classification of the service under the EU AI Act; and a cost model on which financing scenarios can be built.
The infrastructure is operated in a distributed way, with each partner carrying its own running costs, which is what makes it independent of any single institution’s budget. The service in operation shows that the model works: since June 2026 researchers have used GPU compute, hosted language and embedding models through an open API, and browser notebooks; the platform is published as a reusable open-source package ( github.com/dhinfra-at ), so a further site can build on an existing technical and legal basis. A second aim of the work is to apply current AI methods and MLOps practice to humanities research questions ( dhinfra.at/impact ).
The governance model, the policy set, the federation membership and the cost model are in place and documented well enough for CLARIAH-AT and the participating DH centres to take over operation and coordination from 2027; in parallel we are preparing the integration of further DH compute sites and setting up special interest groups, beginning with automatic text recognition, to pool expertise and resources across institutions.
Governance und Verstetigung DH-Infra.atCLARIAH-AT Platform
At the core of this initiative is the redesign and expansion of the existing website clariah.at into a comprehensive platform, that serves as a central information and presentation hub for projects, datasets, tools, services, training materials, and publications within Austria’s Digital Humanities community. The project is modular, encompassing technical development, design, and data integration: The technical development aligns with DARIAH-EU’s “Pathways” strategies, which promote structured, bidirectional integration of information flows between local systems and central European catalogues. Examples include tools from the SSH Open Marketplace or datasets from repositories such as ARCHE, GAMS, and PHAIDRA, made visible via OpenAIRE. A central aspect of the project is manual curation, i.e. reviewing and updating existing resources, as well as continuously expanding them.
