Publication of the "Tegernsee Economic Booklet" as a hyperdiplomatic transcription

The Tegernseer Wirtschaftsbüchlein, a medieval manuscript, provides valuable insights into the culinary and everyday practices of a monastery. This project advances the scientific processing and digital publication of the manuscript to make it accessible to the research community and ensure its sustainable preservation. 

About the Project 

The project focuses on the publication of the “Tegernseer Wirtschaftsbüchlein” as a hyperdiplomatic transcription. The manuscript Munich BSB Cgm 8137, comprising calendars, food lists, recipes with quantities, and texts on fishing, provides a unique insight into medieval monastic life. Since 2012, high-quality digital images of the manuscript have been created, enabling scientific processing and transcription. The project’s goal is to publish the transcription on the Hyper edition portal , making a finely detailed historical document available to the research community. 

The project aims to: 

• Publish the hyperdiplomatic transcription of the “Tegernseer Wirtschaftsbüchlein” on the Hyper edition portal. 

• Technically review and adapt the data to meet the requirements of the Hyper workflow. 

• Prepare facsimile images and ingest the data into the GAMS infrastructure. 

The project contributes to the Digital Humanities Austria Strategy 2021+ by providing digital sources and research data for teaching and research (Point 2.3) and supporting training and the promotion of young researchers (Point 4.2). The hyperdiplomatic transcription is relevant for both culinary historical and historical linguistic research, promoting the sustainable use and reusability of the results.
