International Conference "Digital History – Doing Cultural Heritage"

The international conference “Digital History - Doing Cultural Heritage” is hosted by the University of Salzburg and focuses on digital approaches to cultural heritage. The aim is to promote practical and theoretical engagement with digital methods in historical research and to strengthen the dialogue between universities, museums, archives, and other memory institutions. The conference is part of the series organised by the AG Digitale Geschichtswissenschaft within the Association of German Historians and will be held for the first time outside Germany, in Salzburg. 

The conference centres on three key themes: Capturing, Mediating, and Remembering. These areas explore the digitisation of historical sources, the use of digital mediation formats, and the role of digital memory culture. Workshops, keynotes, and discussion forums will provide participants with opportunities to exchange ideas on current developments and challenges. 

Objectives and Methods 

The project aims to comprehensively organise and execute the conference. Preparatory measures include: 

• Setting up a conference website and publishing a Call for Papers (CfP). 

• Organising pre-conference workshops on topics such as digital memory culture, podcast production, and the processing of historical sources. 

• Developing a concept for hybrid participation formats, including live streaming and recording. 

• Supporting early career researchers through poster sessions, idea exchanges, and scholarships. 

The conference will be supported by modern technical infrastructure, including a media lab and lecture hall technology for hybrid formats. 

Results 

The conference website has already been set up and provides comprehensive information about the event. Further results, such as the publication of conference contributions and reports, are planned.
