Information for Applicants

This data protection notice is intended to inform you, as an applicant for scholarships awarded by the CLARIAH-AT Consortium, about the purpose(s), legal basis/bases, and your rights in connection with the processing of personal data by the joint controllers responsible for the processing:

The legal basis for the processing of your data is your application and - if a scholarship is awarded - your acceptance and use of a scholarship granted by the CLARIAH-AT Consortium. Your data are processed insofar as this is necessary for the selection procedure and the administration of the funding or scholarship, is based on a legal obligation, or is justified by the legitimate interests of the CLARIAH-AT Consortium in promoting research as well as in the establishment, exercise, and defence of legal claims (Article 6(1)(b), (c), and (f) GDPR; § 2g FOG).

Purpose of Data Processing

We process your personal data for the purpose of conducting the selection and review process and—if funding is granted—for administering the funding or scholarship, for documentation and public relations purposes, and for fulfilling reporting obligations.

Categories of Data

For applications submitted via an application form or an online form on CLARIAH-AT websites, the data entered into the respective form are processed and stored.

Disclosure of Data (Possible Categories of Recipients)

Recipients of your personal data include the members of the selection committees and, where applicable, public authorities (e.g. competent ministries, the Court of Audit, the EU).

Furthermore, we point out that the following categories of data may, where applicable, be made available on a CLARIAH-AT website or published in publicly accessible reports (§ 2g(1)(2) FOG): first name(s), last name(s), academic titles, gender, institution, as well as the title, description, duration, and further details of the funded project.

Data Retention Period

We store your data for as long as this is necessary for the administration of the funding or scholarship, for documentation purposes, or for reporting obligations vis-à-vis public authorities, or as long as permitted by law.

Your Rights

In connection with the processing of your personal data, you have the following rights at any time. These rights may primarily be exercised with the Austrian Academy of Sciences ( office@clariah.at ) as the joint contact point for data subjects:

  • Right of access to the personal data concerned (Article 15 GDPR),
  • Right to rectification (Article 16 GDPR) or erasure (Article 17 GDPR) or restriction of processing (Article 18 GDPR),
  • Right to data portability (Article 20 GDPR),
  • Right to object (Article 21 GDPR).

You also have the right to lodge a complaint (Article 77 GDPR) with the Austrian Data Protection Authority, Telephone: +43 1 52 152-0,

For processing operations pursuant to § 2g(1)(1) (retention period for funding documentation) and (2) (publication on the internet and in reports), as well as § 2g(4) (project details and details of persons involved in the project) FOG, the right to erasure under Article 17(3)(b) GDPR and the right to object under Article 21(6) GDPR are excluded as of the time funding is granted.
